john muscaro
John Muscaro ("Moose"), 83, of Weirton passed away on April 1, 2011 at Lifeline Hospital in Wintersville, OH after a brief battle with cancer. He was born July 21st 1927 in Burgettstown PA, and moved to Weirton in 1940 where he resided until his death. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemarie, parents Battista and Julia Muscaro and brother Louis Muscaro. He is survived by his brother Clair Muscaro (Margaret Anne), sister-in-law Judy Muscaro, nephews Marc Muscaro (Anna), Dr Timothy Muscaro (Ann Marie), Kent Muscaro (Kelly), and David Clair Muscaro (Rhonda); nieces Michelle Burdick (Steve), and Kathy Klamut (Joe); seventeen great nieces/nephews, and two great great nieces. John was a WWII veteran who served in the South Pacific Theater as a Navy Seabee from 1945 to 1947. Shortly after his honorable discharge he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad where he worked his way up from brakeman, to fireman and eventually to the position of engineer which he held until his retirement. He was furloughed early in his railroad career due to slow periods so he worked other jobs. One notable job was as a bus driver for Starvaggi Industries. A proud memory of John's was that he drove the chartered bus that took the 1949 undefeated Weir High Football team to the state championship game against Milton in Parkersburg. Weir High won the game 27-13! John cherished the fact that his brother Lou was the starting center and linebacker on this championship team. Other proud memories centered on his attendance at various Ohio champion contests and events during his brother's Clair's tenure as Commissioner of the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He was an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Weirton where he volunteered as usher and offering collector. John also volunteered at the Serbian Picnic Grounds "Chicken Blast," and the Pepsi Cola Roadhouse. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3734, Weirton Moose Lodge 688, American Legion Post 10, B.P.O.E. 1801 and VFW 2716. You could find him daily enjoying the company of friends hanging out at the Old Oak Service Station, McDonalds or Eat 'n Park. He also enjoyed golf and loved to dance! John was very proud of his family and loved them dearly. We will miss his smile, his chuckle and his compassionate and humble disposition but we look forward to our reunion someday in heaven. Visitation will be Friday April 8th 2011 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St, Weirton, WV. Funeral liturgy mass will be celebrated Saturday, 12:00pm at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Weirton. The Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer will preside. Interment will be at St Paul Cemetery, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 229 California Avenue, Weirton WV 26062.
