
John Peterson

John Peterson, 89, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 in the Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. He was born May 20, 1926 in Beech Bottom, WV, a son of the late Joseph Leonard and Hazel Ludwig Peterson. He was also preceded in death by his brother Archie Peterson and sisters Agnes Cross, Dorothy Miller and Betty Gilbert.
Mr. Peterson retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a motor inspector. He was a member of the Weirton Alliance Church and was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Peterson was a member of the New Cumberland Masonic Lodge 22, Osiris Shrine Temple of Wheeling, Steubenville-Weirton Amateur Radio Club, Steubenville Rifle and Pistol Club, American Legion Post 10, Amateur Radio Relay League. He was also a member of the Army "MARS" where he served as Past Director for the State of West Virginia and a FEMA volunteer.
John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eleanore Komorowski Peterson of Weirton, whom he married July 28, 1947; son Monsignor Joseph Peterson of Parkersburg, WV, John (Rhinda) Peterson of Charlotte, NC, Charles Peterson of Kettering, OH and Richard Peterson of Euclid, OH; daughters Marianne (Les) Widmyer of Ashland, VA and Christine (Jack) Nesbitt of Toronto, OH; 13 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held Sunday 4-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Additional visitation will be held Monday from 10 until the 11am funeral service at the Weirton Alliance Church with Pastor James Rhodes and Monsignor Joseph Peterson officiating. Interment will follow in New Cumberland Cemetery where military services will be conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard, followed by the New Cumberland Masonic Lodge services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Weirton Alliance Church, 119 North 13th Street, Weirton, WV 26062.
