John Suray, Jr., 94, of Weirton, died Thursday, August 22, 2002, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born May 21, 1908 in Jerome, PA, the son of the late John Suray and Anastasia Andrews Suray. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Woytek Suray in 1969; and four sisters, Julia Mehozonek, Olga Barber, Alice Bartolovich, and Mary White. John was a retired employee of the Weirton Steel Division of National Steel Corp. with 48 years of service as a Motor Repairman in the Tin Mill Electric Shop. He was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church where he served many years as secretary-treasurer. He was also a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, an original member of the Savages Athletic Club, and was secretary of the Old Timers Bowling League after his retirement. John is survived by a son, Donald Suray and his wife, Billie, of Weirton; daughters, Virginia and her husband, Elmer Kevari, of Longwood, FL, and Priscilla Thomas of Hatfield, PA; ten grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton on Sunday, August 25, from 1-3 and 7-9 PM. A Parastas service will be held Sunday evening at the funeral home. Blessing services will be held 9:30 AM Monday at the funeral home followed by 10 AM funeral services at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton. Dear Don and Billie, Virginia and Elmer, Priscilla, and all of your children and grandchildren, It is sad to hear of Uncle John’s passing, but I know his arrival in heaven is a joyous reunion with Aunt Mary, my mom Olga, my aunts Julia, Alice, and Mary, and Baba and Jido.
