John Sweda

John Sweda of Weirton, died Monday, May 31, 2004 at his home. Born November 27, 1917 in Smock, Pennsylvania, he is the son of the late John and Julia (Billceck) Sweda. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Pete Sweda and sisters Anne Ziklo and Betty Jane Yovich. John retired from Weirton Steel Corp. after 41 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Mens Club, Weirton Steel 25-Year Club, V.F.W. Post 2716 and was a World War II Army Veteran. John’s survivors include his wife Helen (Rozak) Sweda of Weirton, son John Ricardo and his wife Colleen of California; daughter Rebecca and her husband Gary Boggs of Rogers, Ohio; two grandsons, Ivan and John; two granddaughters, Julie and Maureen; two great-grandchildren, Diedra and Lilly Anna; two sisters Mary Senker of Atlanta, GA and Elizabeth and her husband Bud Harvey of Weirton. Friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where Parastas Services will be held at 8PM. Blessing service will be held 8:30AM Friday at the funeral home, followed by 9:00AM funeral services at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church. Reverend Father Edward Lucas will preside. Interment will be at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens in Follansbee where military services will be conducted by the Weirton V.F.W. Post 2716 Firing Squad, the Evert Maki American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the Tri-State Marine Corps. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or to St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 3116 Elm Street, Weirton, WV 26062.
