John Wesley "Jack" Pate, 81, of Steubenville, OH, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010 at his home. Born March 1, 1929 in Iaeger, WV, he was the son of the late John A. and Maude Williams Pate. He was also preceded in death by step-mother Thelma Amos Pate, son Ira Pate and sister Phyllis Lockwood. With 25 years of service, Mr. Pate retired from N & W Railroad, where he served as a supervisor. After his retirement, he owned and operated General Tire in Iaeger. He was a member of the Iaeger United Methodist Church and Wintersville United Methodist Church. He loved fishing and golfing. At a Pro-Am Golf Tournament, while golfing with son, Jack recorded a hole-in-one. He was a member of the AF & AM Lodge and Iaeger Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Pate is survived by his wife Joan Myers Pate of Steubenville, whom he married June 26, 1956; son Dr. Wesley Pate and his wife Rina of Weirton; daughter Attorney Sarah Beth Pate of Larkspur, CA, granddaughter Stephanie Pate, son John Kidwell and grandson Blaine Kidwell. Friends will be received Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where funeral services will be celebrated 8:00AM Monday. The Reverend Clint Quillen will officiate. Entombment service will be held at 3PM Monday in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
