Joseph D'Alesio, 95, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in the Weirton Medical Center. Born February 24, 1916 in Pettorano Sul Gizio, Italy, he was a son of the late Croce and Giovina DiFonzo D'Alesio. Joseph was also preceded in death by his brothers Anthony and Guy D'Alesio, sister Victoria Suffoletta, grandson Andy D'Alesio and a great granddaughter, Gabriella. With 45 years of service, Mr. D'Alesio retired from the Tin Mill Department of Weirton Steel. He served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II with the United States Army. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, WSX 25-Year Club, Knights of Columbus 3734, K of C Fourth Degree Assembly and the Sons of Italy Lodge. One of his favorite pastimes was making sausage for his family and friends, and will always be remembered for his famous quotes. Joseph is survived by his wife Josephine Orsini D'Alesio of Weirton, whom he married December 1, 1945; sons C. William D'Alesio and his wife Sandy of Weirton, Mike D'Alesio and his wife Becky of Columbus, OH and Joseph D'Alesio and his wife Diane of Cleveland, OH; sister Maria DePanfilis of Italy; grandchildren Jason (Alene), Joe (Mandy), Julie (Nathan), David, Valarie, Brittany and Michael and nine great-grandchildren, Melanie, Nicholas, Dominic, Rocco, Vinnie, Anna Lucia, Alexandra, Adriana, and Samantha. Friends and family will be celebrating his life on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 12 noon Friday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer officiating. The Fourth Degree Assembly will stand in Honor Guard. Entombment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton where military services will be conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad. I will remember the times we worked together in the mill and when I would run into him at Krogers. Always a smile, a how are you doing and off he would go. He was one of the good guys and will be missed by those of us that knew him.
