Joseph Francis DeFilippis, Jr., of Weirton, passed away suddenly at Weirton Medical Center on July 28. He was sixty-seven years old.

He was born in Weirton on April 22, 1957, Joe was one of three children born to Joseph and Marjorie Pustovarh DeFilippis, Sr.

Joe graduated from Brooke High School in 1975 and dedicated 45 years of hard work and commitment to Weirton Steel, retiring with respect from his colleagues.

Joe was known for his love of the outdoors. He was an avid local deer hunter who cherished the serenity and challenge of the hunt.

He found joy in trips to Myrtle Beach, where he created lasting memories with family and friends.

Recently, Joseph fulfilled a dream by purchasing a motorcycle, and he delighted in the freedom and adventure it brought him.

A man of many interests, Joe enjoyed working outside, where he found peace and satisfaction in his labor.

He never knew a stranger, always ready with a friendly word or a helping hand.

His kind nature and warm heart made him a cherished friend.
In his leisure time, Joe often watched black and white cowboy movies, a pastime that brought him immense joy and nostalgia. His love for these classic films was well-known among his family and friends.

In addition to his mother, Joe was preceded in death by his wife Mary Allison DeFilippis who sadly passed away on September 20, 2019.

Cherishing his memory are his father Joseph F. DeFilippis, Sr., and his son Joseph F. DeFilippis, III both of Weirton, brother Dino (Jodi) DeFilippis of Tampa, FL., sister Carolyn Donkin of Clearmont, FL., and Joe’s girlfriend, Jo Ellen Hibbard.

Friends can visit Joe’s family on Thursday, from 3-5 pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where a Liturgy of the Word Service will be held at 5 pm.

Joe’s request for cremation will be honored.

He will be cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home Crematory.

Joe will be entombed with his wife Mary at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Weirton.

Joe’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of doctors and nurses on the 5 th and 9 th floors at Weirton Medical Center for the diligent and concise care Joe received.

    As soon as deer season began, Joe would call to talk with Rick every day about what he shot or saw in the field.
