It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Paul Romanyak also known as “Larry Car” a nick name he received for working so hard when building the Blast Furnace at Weirton Steel.
Joe went to church on Christmas Day enjoyed the day with his family and went home and passed away from an apparent heart attack. He was 64.
Joe was born on March 22, 1958, in Steubenville, OH, one of four children born to Joseph and Patricia Carol Grill Romanyak.
Joe retired as a laborer for Union Local 809, after an injury to his foot that required multiple surgeries.
In his free time, he enjoyed working on cars. He was particularly fond of the older Cadillacs. For fun he enjoyed woodworking and fishing at Tappan Lake and Tomlinson Run State Park.
He was a member of Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church and the Oglebay Woodcarvers Guild.
Sadly, Joe was preceded in death by his mother on October 16, 1994; and his stepmother, Carolyn “Cookie” Constance Johnson Romanyak, on July 19, 1983.
He will be deeply missed by his father, Joseph Romanyak, his two sons, Joseph and Christopher Romanyak; his brothers, David, Greg, and Andrew (Sara) Romanyak; sisters, Michelle Guglielmo, and Regina VanCamp (Jeff); and his grandchildren, Oliver, Asher and Leni Romanyak; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4 PM until 7 PM Thursday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where Parasatas services will be at 7 PM.
On Friday morning, a blessing service will be held at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10 AM at Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church at 3116 Elm Street in Weirton.
Joseph will be laid to rest next to his mother at Union Cemetery in Toronto, OH.

Hello, My name is Oliver Romanyak, I am his Grandson, I was not very close to him but he was my family, and I didn’t visit him much for reasons I don’t want to share right now but he was a dear family member and I wish the best for him in the after life.

was a wonderful neighbor to my sister and her family when the boys were growing up. We always remember how education was important to him and he taught his two boys to read at an early age. Rest in Peace Joe – Memory Eternal.

I remember Joey mostly from our Elementary School Days at Weirton Heights Elementary School. Joey was my Classmate & Friend as well. May God’s Presence, Peace, Love & Comfort Be with His Family and Loved Ones.
