Joseph S. Lipan

Joseph S. Lipan, 82, of Weirton, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born September 23, 1919 in Manifold, PA, son of the late John A. Lipan, Sr. and Margaret Kita Lipan. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth J. Lemasters, on August 11, 1994, and a sister Margaret Hriczo.
Joseph retired with 40 years of service from the Weirton Steel Corporation where he worked as a Foreman in the Mason Department. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, Three Score Senior Citizens Club, A.A.R.P., and a lifetime member of the VFW #2716.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Rateau Lipan, of Weirton, whom he married on May 9, 1938; two daughters, Jacqueline Fijewski and her husband Thomas, and Patricia Harvey and her husband Robert; a brother, John A. Lipan, Jr., all of Weirton; seven grandchildren, Timothy and Shari Fijewski, Daniel and Gary Lemasters, Teri-Jo Hale, and Matthew and Cari Harvey; and four great grandchildren, Delaney, Drew, Cory, and Kristy Lemasters.
Visitation will be 7-9 PM Thursday, April 11, and 2-4 and 7-9 PM Friday, April 12, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Saturday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton, with Military Services performed by the American Legion Post 10, Veterans of Foreign Wars #2716, and Tri-State Marine Corps. A wake service will be held 3 PM Friday at the funeral home.
