Josephine E. Kusic

Josephine E. Kusic, 96, of Weirton, WV and Fort Lauderdale, FL, died at home in her sleep on August 19, 2008 in Weirton, WV.
A native of Morgantown, WV, she was born on May 20, 1912, daughter of the late Ignatz and Anna Nekoranec. She was married in 1946 to the late Samuel Kusic, successful Weirton business man who served as the city's second mayor in 1955.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed golf and the theater. She was a member of the Weirton Woman's Club, a sponsor of the Theta Phi Alpha Sorority at the University of Steubenville and was active in her Weirton Medical Hospital Twig. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt.
She is survived by her daughter and son, Alicia Carol Davis of Washington, D.C. and Samuel N. Kusic and his wife Winkie of Wheeling, West Virginia, her sister Jane Bookman and her husband Ed of Wilmington, North Carolina; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Paul, Albert and Joseph Nekoranec and her sister Mary Pinion.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to her caregivers and Valley Hospice.

Mrs. Kusic has been sponsoring girls who take part in this program since its inception ten years ago. High Rocks provides tutoring and mentoring to young women during thier high school years in Pocahontas, Nicholas, and Greenbrier Counties. The main focus is to build leadership skills and prepare them for college and life.
