Josephine “Sophie” Messer, 73, of Weirton died Wednesday April 27, 2005, at the Weirton Medical Center. She was born on February 6, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late Peter and Josephine (Olbrys) David. Sophie was also preceded in death by her brother, Zymont Olbrys and one grandchild. Sophie was a homemaker. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, the Rosary Society, and the PNA Lodge 301 She is survived by her husband, Bryon L. Messer, whom she married on Nov 19, 1949; her three daughters, Linda Hurley of Weirton, WV, Lorraine Messer of Jacksonville, NC and Diane McKenney and her husband Larry of Jacksonville, NC; 3 grandchildren, Bridget McKenney, Eric Marshall, and Timothy Hurley; 1 great granddaughter, Regan Marshall; her step mother Eugena David of Binghamton, NY. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Saturday at the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Weirton Interment will follow at Saint Paul Cemetery Weirton, WV Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart of Mary Church or to the Epilepsy Foundation.
