juanita arkley
Juanita M. Arkley was born to Lawrence and Bessie Mae Kimble Stilwell in Logan, OH on, May 20, 1916. She grew up in Lancaster, OH, with her parents and two sisters, Betty and Maxine. On June 25, 1941, at the age of 27, she married John W. Arkley, of Steubenville. They had two daughters, Leanne and Juanita Jane. Shortly after Leanne was born, John went to World War II, and Juanita and their daughter moved in with her parents. After the war they moved to Weirton. Their family resided on Marland Heights, John working in Quality Control for Weirton Steel, and Juanita taking care of the home. She loved to read and was very good at crafts and sewing. She enjoyed charcoal and oil paintings, as she painted with local artist, Lewis Kessling. Juanita was involved in many civic and community organizations. She was the past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Weirton Womens Club, Scout Leader for the Girl Scouts, Star of the Valley Rebekah Lodge, Edgewood School PTA, Weirton Christian Womens Fellowship. She was also a member of the First Christian Church and a charter member of the Three Score Senior Citizens. In August of 1965, her family suffered the loss of their daughter and sister, J. Jane Arkley, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Shortly afterwards, Leanne and her husband Jim moved back to Weirton, to be with the family. On July 27, 1986 at the age of 76, her husband John passed away, and Juanita moved to Hooverson Heights in Follansbee for 13 years. Juanita was very independent. Later on in life, she enjoyed Gaither gospel music, and her day out with her daughter. She also enjoyed visiting the Holy Land, with her friend, Genelle. Juanita M. Arkley, passed away on July 25, 2003 in Weirton, WV. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Leanne and Jim Bowen of Weirton; her sister, Betty Redd of Lancaster, OH; her grandchildren, Kim Underwood, Matt and Tracey Bowen; and her great-grandchildren, Chad and Madison Underwood. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 PM Monday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday. Rev. Kevin Bowers will preside. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
