Julia Matyuf Spetek
December 27, 1928 ~ January 22, 2018
Julia Matyuf Spetek, beloved wife of the late John Ivan Spetek, fell asleep unto the Lord at the age of 89 on January 22, 2018. She was born December 27, 1928 in Canonsburg, PA, the youngest daughter of the late John and Anna Czap Matyuf. In addition to her parents and husband of 61 years, she was preceded in death by her brothers Pete, Harry, Mike, John and Steve Matyuf and sisters Mary Kacvinsky, Anne Puskarich and Eva Pirih.
Julia was a devoted wife and mother, always putting her children and others before herself. She was a life-time member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Canonsburg and was an avid Chicago-style Polka dancer and enjoyed attending the weekly dances and playing Bingo. Her pierogi and bread recipes will live on for many generations; an inspiration for a granddaughter to enter the culinary profession.
She is survived by her daughters Anna Marie Spetek, Nancy (Lenny) Dankovchik and Shirley (Don) Resnik; grandchildren Michael (Jennifer) Rokovich of Burlingame, CA, Karen Resnik of Dobbs Ferry, NY and Jenna Resnik of Charleston, SC; great-grandchildren Landon and Maxwell Rokovich; brother William Matyuf of Canonsburg and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday 4-8 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Additional visitation will be held Friday 5-7 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 601 Boone Avenue, Canonsburg, PA, where Parastas services will be held at 7 p.m. and Funeral Liturgy of Orthodox burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday. The Very Reverend Father Joseph Oleynik will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Springs Cemetery, Canonsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church.
