Julius Michael Rurak
August 22, 1920 ~ May 17, 2005
Julius Michael Rurak, 84, of Weirton, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at his home.
He was born August 22, 1920 in Weirton, WV, a son of the late John and Anna Surdyka Rurak. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Ben Rurak, and one sister, Victoria Letcher.
Julius retired with 49 years of service from Weirton Steel where he worked as a welder. He was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, Hancock County Sportsmen’s Club, and Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Julius enjoyed volunteering at Sacred Heart, he also loved to hunt and fish, and was a life long Notre Dame fan. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre.
Julius is survived by his wife, Rose Wargacki Rurak, whom he married on October 25, 1941; one son, John Rurak of Destin, FL; two daughters, Frances Knox of Pittsburgh, PA and Margaret Rurak of Columbus, OH; two sisters, Stephanie (Frank) Maslowski and Frances Pszczolkowski, both of Weirton; and three grandchildren, Megan Rurak of Albany, NY, Maura (Attila) Votin of Atlanta, GA, and William (Coreyanne) Rurak of Destin, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where a Wake Service will be held 8:30 PM Thursday.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Friday at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Weirton.
Rev. Fr. Kent Durig will preside
Interment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.
