Karene Ataliotis Cruz, of Oxford, PA, passed away on April 15, at The Hershey Medical Center, she was fifty-three years old.
She was born August 26, 1970, in Weirton, WV., a cherished daughter of George and Nancy (Zatezalo) Ataliotis.
Karene was a graduate of Weir High’s class of 1988 and furthered her education at West Virginia University.
Throughout her professional life, Karene excelled in the medical field as a Certified Medical Assistant in Southeastern PA. Her dedication and passion led her to her most recent role as a Lead Specialist at Sunoco LP in Newton Square.
Karene was not only accomplished in her career but also her role as a loving and devoted mother to her son, Kristopher.
She found immense joy in the companionship of her dogs, Bandit and Griffin, and cherished every moment spent with them.
An avid reader with a penchant for adventure, Karene was a member of the Tri-Delta Sorority and found delight in playing Pokémon Go and watching the irreverent humor of South Park. Her adventurous spirit led her to explore new cultures through travel, indulge in culinary delights at various restaurants, and revel in the energy of live concerts, with Depeche Mode holding a special place in her heart.
Karene’s passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew her. She will be remembered for her infectious laughter, compassionate nature, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her legacy of kindness and zest for life will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
In addition to her father George, Karene was preceded in death by grandparents Peter and Mildred Zatezalo.
Left to cherish her memory with love and admiration are her mother Nancy Ataliotis, son Kristopher Cruz, fiance̒ Steve Bruno, sisters Kelly Phillips, and Julie Ataliotis, and numerous first cousins who will miss her dearly.
Friends may visit Karene’s family at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. on Tuesday, April 30, from 2:30- 5:30 PM where a Trisagion Service will be held at 4:00 pm.
Fr. Matthew Moore will preside.
