kim mitchell

It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Kim I. Mitchell, age 72, who died on December 24, 2025, in Weirton, West Virginia. Born on September 14, 1953, in Swissvale/Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kim lived a life filled with Jesus, love, kindness, and a devotion to her family and friends. Kim called many places home, including Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, central Florida, Orangeburg, South Carolina, New York City, Las Vegas, Nevada, and lastly, Elkins, West Virginia.

Kim is preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” Mitchell and Helen Mitchell, and her sisters-in-law Janice Mitchell and Kathy Mitchell, and a nephew, David Gomola.

She will be remembered by her son Jason (Krystal) Gomola, daughter Kellee (Gatan) Waddell, beautiful grandchildren Avett Gomola and Grayson Gomola and Azalea Waddell, dear friends Robert (Carol) Gomola, brothers William “Bill” (Sylvia) Mitchell and Kevin Mitchell (Sandra), bonus son Blaze Grigson, nephews Erich Mitchell and Jay Gomola, and nieces Heather (Jimmie) Beauralt, Katie Gomola and Alison Gomola. Her family, a constant source of joy, will remember her sweet nature, love of books and movies, and enjoyment of the beach.

A kid at heart, Kim loved people and greatly enjoyed her work as a Travel Consultant at Disney World. She was proud of earning her bachelor’s degree in education from South Carolina State University and loved volunteering at North Fork Elementary School and East Elementary School, where she got to be “Nana Kim” to all the students. Kim always saw the best in people and was everyone’s biggest cheerleader.

Following Kim’s wishes, she will be cremated, and the family will hold a Celebration of Life Memorial service in North Palm Beach, Florida, over Easter weekend.

Kim will be cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home Crematory, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. 26062.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kim’s honor to a fire station of choice to honor her respect of firefighters.
