Larry Gordon Bell, 74, of Kingwood, formerly of New Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Kingwood Health Care Center, surrounded by the love of his devoted family.
Born on August 22, 1950, in Steubenville, Larry was the only son of Ralph and Isobel Bell, Jr. A graduate of Weir High School’s Class of 1968, Larry went on to study mechanical drafting at the Pittsburgh Technical Institute.
Larry brought his expertise to Weirton Steel, where he worked diligently for over 32 years. Even after retiring, Larry’s passion for mechanical work drew him back into the field as a pump repairman with Total Equipment Company in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania.
A lifelong fan of NASCAR, Stock Car, and Drag Racing, Larry found joy in the roar of engines and the thrill of the track. He took pride in his custom PT Cruiser, proudly cruising the Ohio Valley and turning heads with its signature flame paint job and custom interior. Car shows were a favorite pastime, where he never missed a chance to admire and discuss automotive craftsmanship.
Larry was also a proud member of Alexander Armory, where he enjoyed time at the range. Whether he was working on cars, keeping his mind sharp with mechanical challenges, or enjoying a hearty breakfast or dinner at his favorite local spots, Larry embraced each day with purpose and curiosity.
In addition to his mother Isobel, Larry was preceded in death by his wife Cheryl, who passed away sadly on February 23, 2012, and brother-in-law William Fidler.
Left to cherish his memory are his father, Ralph Bell of Weirton, son Derek (Amanda) Bell of Kingwood, WV, sister Pam Fidler of New Cumberland, and grandchildren Logan Gordon, Scarlet Jane, and Owen Gordon Bell.
Friends can visit Larry’s family on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 11:30 am until the time of his 1 pm service at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, 26062.
Rev. Larry Barkley will officiate.
Larry will be remembered for his kind heart, mechanical talent, and his love for family, cars, and community. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, humor, and hands-on ingenuity that will be cherished by all who knew him.
