Laura Vinco Scandola, 92, of Weirton passed away Thursday May 7, 2015, at the Weirton Medical Center. Born on July 13, 1922, in Piney Fork, OH, Laura was a daughter of Cirillo and Margaret Maoli Vinco; She was also preceded in death by her husband John Tony B. Scandola, on January 7, 1987; two sisters, Mary Varagliotti and Della Furlin. A homemaker most of her life, Laura was part of the American Cultural Icon known as Rosie the Riveter, which represented women who worked in the factories during World War II. In her free time Laura enjoyed reading, playing cards and bingo. She was a member of Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church, and the Freedom Place I Building Association. Laura is survived by her two daughters, Marie Foster (Gary) of Crescent, PA and Monica Slanchik (Steve) of Weirton, WV; her two brothers, Henry Hank Vinco of Columbus, OH formerly of Wintersville, OH; and Livio Vinco of New Smyrna Beach, FL; a sister, Erma Sharrow of Weirton, WV; six grandchildren, Brad Foster, Bethanie Weigel, Brock Foster, Breanna Woodling, Steven J. and Matthew Slanchik; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Monday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Weirton.   1. What a joy it was to have gotten to know Laura this past year. I brought her communion every month and I always looked forward to seeing her beautiful smile and enjoyed our chats. She loved her family so much…she would often talk about you all and show me pictures. I’m so sorry for your loss…you are all in my prayers. May she now rest in peace and enjoy her reward in Heaven!
