lawrence hanlon

Lawrence David “Larry” Hanlon, 73, of Clinton, PA, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 18, 2024.

Born on August 13, 1950, in Pittsburgh, PA, Larry was the eldest of three children born to Lawrence J. and Marie Elizabeth (Greygor) Hanlon.

Larry proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. His dedication to his country was paralleled by his commitment to his profession. An esteemed aircraft mechanic, Larry specialized in both airframe and powerplant technologies. His illustrious career spanned various cities including Hagerstown, MD; Columbus, OH; Kansas City; and Pittsburgh. He also worked in Sweden with Saab Fairchild. Throughout his career, Larry worked with prestigious airlines such as TWA, US Airways, and retired from American Airlines. His coworkers universally recognized him as one of the finest mechanics in the industry.

Larry’s passion for mechanics was not just a profession but a legacy, one that he passed on to his son, Mike, who learned to turn a wrench under his father’s tutelage at a young age. His love for aviation was also a significant part of this legacy, deeply influencing Mike’s own passions. Later in life, Larry developed a keen interest in firearms, enjoying many days at the shooting range with his son.

In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his loving wife, Michelle Bellon Hanlon, who passed away on April 4, 2015, and his brother, Jimmy Hanlon.

Larry will be remembered with profound love and admiration, not only as a devoted family man and a respected professional but also as a person whose life was a testament to the values of dedication, and skill.

His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him as they carry forward his legacy of integrity and love for life, including his son, Mike Hanlon (Jessica Hargest); his sister, Rose Pabedinskas (Andy); his loyal dogs; and four grand dogs.

Per Larry’s request the cremation will take place at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton with no formal services.
