Lawrence J. "Larry" Bish
November 13, 1941 ~ November 20, 2020
Lawrence J. Bish,79, of Weirton, WV passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020, at Valley Hospice Care Center South (Liza’s Place) in Wheeling, WV.
Larry was born November 13, 1941, son of the late Guy Clifford Bish and Mary Agnes (Murphy) Bish. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Jim and Bill and sisters Betty, Helen, and Evelyn.
Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy (Dennis) Bish. He is also survived by his four children; Greg (Alice Kao), Chuck (Missy Basler), Jim, and Patty Jo Kell (Tim Knierim) as well as his five grandchildren; Brennan, Ethan, Augy, Suzannah, and Katie; his siblings, Carl, Ruth, John, Bernie, and Mary Jane, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Larry found great joy in supporting the endeavors and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He always encouraged them towards their goals and assisted them any way he could to overcome challenges. He was extremely proud of each of them.
Larry was known for the many family vacations, hunting, fishing, reading, watching sports, and cheering on the greyhounds as they ran around the track. Larry especially enjoyed the treasured moments he spent with his grandkids. He was well known by all of the family picnic attendees as the French fry guy serving up fresh hot fries for hours on end. However, some of his greatest memories were from the time he spent on Piney Ridge.
Larry had a great talent for storytelling. He was a man who knew and valued the importance of education and hard work. He always encouraged others to do the same.
Larry served in the U.S. Army for three years. He proudly retired in 1994 from Weirton Steel after 30 years of dedicated service.
A private service will be held at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home at the convenience of his family. Larry will be cremated per his wishes, and his final resting place will be on Piney Ridge.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mary H. Weir Library in his memory.

Our deepest sympathy and thoughts during this difficult time.
With our deepest sympathies.
It’s a very sad day at my household. Speaking for ALL my family…LOVED our Uncle Larry, ALWAYS enjoyed his company, his special and unique way with ‘down home’ goodness and humor. Very grateful for the years and years of heartwarming memories that will always be cherished, just one example… who could forget his checker cab?? Most sincerely, Kathy Alatis
Chad and I are so sorry for your loss. I remember his wit, wisdom and generosity.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Thinking of you and your family.
Aunt Judy, Greg, Chuck, Jim, Patty and family, You all have my deepest sympathy. This has been a rough loss. I have countless memories with you all. Uncle Larry was always able to provide a laugh or a way to make you feel loved. Even if I drove him up the wall. I was fortunate to share many meals around the table at Hillcrest. Whether it was a cucumber in rice vinegar, a bag of chips or watching him cut a snickers bar in four. I was always in awe how he could stretch out eating a snickers for days. He was a hard working man and a provider for his family. I love you all and hold you close in my heart in the days, weeks and months to come. I am trying to find comfort in the fact he is no longer in pain and is with our other loved ones including my mother. All my love – Mary Beth

We will miss “Lawrence Bish”.
Though I didn’t know Larry well I had the pleasure to spend a weekend at Piney with him and Jim last year. He shared so many stories I felt like I’d been there before! His love for Piney and the woods was evident. Also, I enjoyed watching him get busy with projects, one involved a chain saw… yikes, and he rode the mower like a kid on a bike! After returning to Weirton I went with Larry to Tim’s farm to feed the chickens and cows. Again, I could see his love for the farm and taking care of the animals. I know all Judy, his family and friends will fell his absence but with his personality he will live forever in their hearts.
When I stood up at Larry’s funeral service to speak about him I had words in my head that didn’t come out and I rambled. What I wanted to add was that Larry was a good man–a gentleman–funny, kind, smart, interesting, and thoughtful. He and Judy raised four beautiful, accomplished children and I’m sure they’re very proud of all their grandchildren too. I enjoyed all my conversations with him and always found myself smiling when I talked to him. As I said, I’ve truly been blessed to be a part of the Bish family. Will really miss Larry. How wonderful it is when you live a life where everyone respects you and mourns your passing. This is true about Larry. Linda Guz
