Leanora M. "Babe" Olashuk, 74, of Weirton died Monday June 29, 2009, at her home. She was born on January 8, 1935, in Weirton, WV, a daughter of the late Dominic C. and Lena Buracchio DiGregorio. Leanora was also preceded in death by her brother, Bernard DiGregorio. After receiving her diploma from the Monongahela General Hospital School of Nursing, Leanora returned home to Weirton, where she worked at the Weirton General Hospital Labor and Delivery. Leanora married John Olashuk on October 26, 1957, and the couple started their family. When their youngest son Bobby turned four years old, Leanora went back to nursing, receiving her BS in Nursing, from West Liberty State College. She was employed by the Hancock County Board of Education as a School Nurse at the Weir Junior High School. She then continued with her education, where she received her Masters in Vocational Education from Marshall University, and was an instructor of Nursing Assistants at the John D. Rockefeller Vo – Tech Center for 20 years before her retirement. She will be remembered for her guidance, comfort and support that she provided to her many students. When she was not working, Leanora enjoyed attending her children's, and grandchildren's sporting events and activities. She also enjoyed playing cards especially with her grandchildren and traveling with her family to WVU games. Leanora was a member of the Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers, Hancock County Association of Retired School Employees, Weirton Medical Center Auxiliary, Forget Me Not Twig, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, West Liberty; and Marshall Universities Alumni Associations, and the WVU Parent's Club. Leanora is survived by her husband, John; her two sons, John and Jodi Olashuk of Granger, IN, and Bobby and Jill Olashuk of Defiance, OH; her two daughters, Donna Gialluco of Weirton, WV, and Mary and Kevin Davis of Weirton, WV; her two sisters, Beth DiGregorio and Jeannie and Paul Duffy all of Weirton, WV, her grandchildren, Megan and Brian Gialluco, Rebecca, Kristen, Justin, and Jared Olashuk, Amy and Adam Davis. Visitation will be 2-8 PM Wednesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. A prayer service will take place 7:30 PM Wednesday in the funeral home with Fr. Kent Durig presiding. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Thursday at the Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Walter M. Jagela will preside. Entombment will follow at the Saint Paul Cemetery Mausoleum, Weirton, WV. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Joseph the Worker Memorial Fund 224 California Avenue Weirton, WV 26062 or to the Donor's Choice. When I felt anxious, I alway knew that I could go there and she would make me feel better….it was like having a mom at school! That was my start in the field of medicine.
