Lora Lee Archileti
January 1, 2015
Our beloved aunt, Lora Lee Archileti, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015, in Richmond, Virginia.
For over 30 years Lora dedicated her time and talents to the community of Weirton as a Program Director at the Millsop Community Center. Her career in recreational supervision began as early as 1943 when she started working as a playground instructor at the Cove Road playground. Lora took great pride in her work and felt blessed for the opportunity to be associated with multiple generations of Weirton youth throughout the span of her career. Lora enjoyed life-long relationships with her siblings, especially her sister Delma, and her many nieces and nephews. She treasured her Italian heritage and valued the stories, traditions and family recipes brought over from the old country. She was especially fond of the Christmas season and hosted the Feast of Seven Fishes in her home every year on Christmas Eve. She will always be remembered as a woman of incredible devotion to her family and for putting others before herself.
Lora Lee is preceded in death by her parents Luigi and Anna (Amedio) Archileti; brothers Waldo and Clyde; and sister, Delma Kaye (Archileti) Fuoco. Lora will be sadly missed by her family and all those who had the great pleasure of knowing her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church with Father Larry Dorsch officiating. Entombment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.
Memorial donations may be made in Lora's name to St. Paul's Church, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062..
Saw Lora every time I walked in the Center. Seemed like she was there night and day, Worked with her on the Miss Weirton Pageants. Great lady. Condolences to the family. RIP.
so sorry to hear of her passing. I remember her very well from the center my thoughts and prayers are with her family
It doesn’t seem so long ago that Lora was helping to raise us as we all played at the community center in the ’60’s. Our thoughts and prayers to the family … rejoice in a life well lived
I have many great memories of Lora Lee from the Center…Termites, roller skating, swimming, dances, musicals, Miss Weirton…she was always there behind the desk checking our membership cards, saying hello. When I was a child I always thought she was one of the prettiest women I had ever seen. Coming back to the Center as an adult, my thought was still the same. Rest in Peace.
Cinnie–I’m so sorry to see you lost your beloved aunt. I remember how sweet and smiling she always was at Center. I know you loved and adored her. Judy (Fox) Hince
I was eight years old when the Community Center opened…..I remember Lora Lee from the very start….I had her for dancing lesson, craft classes, dramatics class and always considered her a great lady and friend
I remember her well. She knew everyone by name. My son would sit with her and draw pictures. That was in the 1980’s. She always had a smile for you.
Lovely lady i remeber 43 years ago painting sign for concerts at center with her use spray cans
Lora taught me how to dance when I was in 5th grade and since then I have always loved dancing. I will always remember Lora for her beauty inside and out and for her support and enthusiasm at \”The Center\”. She made my young years very happy and fun for me and for many of my friends. Thanks, Lora. We are grateful!
Love,
Deya
I grew up knowing Lora…from participating in many activities at the “center”, since grade school! All the skating and Dances from early on..I had the privilege of being Miss Teenage Weirton in 1969..Also worked as a “playground” teacher under Lora’s guidance!! What a beautiful role model and example of a gracious woman.. my deepest sympathy to her family and friends …she will be long remembered by those of us who knew her and were influenced by her. Rest in Peace!
I am saddened to hear of the passing of Ms. Archileti. I, too, remember her as being a beautiful, loving and very helpful woman. Her brother and my father worked together in the mill and we spent many visits back and forth with the families. She was as much a part of The Center and my childhood as the basketball courts and swimming pool were…only sweeter and more important.
My deepest sympathies go out to her nephews whom I remember fondly. RIP to a wonderful lady.
