Martin Joseph Burskey, 71, of Weirton died December 27, 2003, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born on October 12, 1932, in Weirton, WV, the son of the late Martin P. and Mary Ann Balog Burskey. Joe retired from Weirton Steel as a welder after 36 years of service. He served his country in the US Army Infantry. He was a member of Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Altar Society, Past Faithful Navigator Knights of Columbus 3734 Fourth Degree Assembly, Life Member of the VFW 2716, member of the VFW 2716 Firing Squad, Past All State Commander and Commander of the Year of the VFW, Past All American Commander of the VFW, Life Member of the Evertt Maki American Legion Post 10, Life Member of the Moose Lodge 688, F.O.P.A. Lodge 7, Wellsburg, Upper Ohio Valley Dapper Dan, Saint Paul Bowling League, VFW Golf League. He is survived by his wife, Mary S. Highley Burskey, whom he married on September 17, 1966; a step daughter, Mrs. Dencil (Betty) Oldaker of New Cumberland; six step sons, William Mercer of Kentucky, Richard, Roger and Charles Mercer all 3 of New Cumberland, Robert and David Mercer of Erie, PA; a brother, Robert M. Burskey and his wife Margaret of Weirton; 14 grandchildren;32 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 PM Monday and Tuesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV K of C Fourth Degree Assembly will stand Honor Guard from 7-9 PM Tuesday. K of C Rosary will be recited 7 PM Tuesday. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday at the Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Interment will follow at the Saint Paul Cemetery, with military services conducted by the Evertt Maki American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard, VFW 2716 Firing Squad, and the Tri State Marine Corp.
