Mrs. Mary Colangeli

Mary Colangeli, 97, of Weirton, WV, passed away on January 7, 2025 (1 month shy of her 98th birthday).

Mary was born on February 7, 1927, in Dennison, Ohio, to the late Eusebio and Santa Lupi. After her birth, her family returned to Italy where she was raised with her three siblings. At the age of 19 years, she returned to the United States and settled in Weirton, West Virginia.

She began to work for the Coronet Dry Cleaners. Later, Mary and her husband, Jack, began their family and Mary became a stay-at-home mother raising their 3 children. She would sew and alter clothes for others and many years later worked as a seamstress for Denmark’s.

Over the course of her life, her greatest joy and happiness was her family and cooking for others. She was an exceptional cook and baker. Every Sunday, her kitchen would be filled with the aroma of fresh sauce cooking on the stovetop and the Italian Hour playing on the radio. She would be the first one to bring a huge bowl of homemade spaghetti and meatballs to an event. And she was also well known for her sponge cake! Mary was a hardworking and energetic woman. Her warm personality and generous spirit resonated in all she did. She had a heart of gold and was beloved by all. Her Catholic faith was also extremely important to Mary. She was deeply devoted and unwavering in her faith and she was a member of the St. Paul’s Christian Mothers.

Mary was predeceased by her stepmother, Lucia Lupi, her beloved husband of 48 years, Jack, and her sisters, Rosina, Anna and Carmella.

Mary will be greatly remembered with love and admiration by her children, Anthony “Tony” (Patty) Colangeli, Mary Lou (John) Orr, and Jack (Niki) Colangeli; by her grandchildren Renee (Michael) Lord, David (Marie) Colangeli, Christina (Mike) Magulick, Melissa (Andrew) Bailey, Daniel Orr, Megan Colangeli and Julia Colangeli; and great grandchildren, Jack Magulick, Luke Magulick, Grayson Bailey, Talia Lord, Christian Bailey, Lucia Colangeli, Mia Bailey, Max Magulick, Benjamin Lord, Vincent Colangeli and Nicholas Colangeli.

Mary’s family would like to extend their profound thanks and gratitude to Dr. Jasbir Makar for his tireless dedication over the countless years and for his outstanding medical care and treatment of their mother. During her last few years, Mary was in the skilled hands of the Weirton Geriatric Center Nursing Home, Enchanted Gardens. The nursing staff, aides and ancillary personnel are truly devoted, dedicated and compassionate individuals. We would like to thank them for their exceptional care of our mother. And last but not least, the family would also like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to Scott of Valley Hospice for his compassionate care and dedication.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, January 18th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church.

Rev. Fr. Tony Thurston will preside.

Entombment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery Mausoleum.
