Mary Kay Angelo, 67, of Weirton, WV, passed away unexpectedly on January 6, 2024, due to complications of double pneumonia. Born on April 2, 1956, Mary Kay was the fifth of six children born to Chester and Lieschen Volke Barnabei.
Mary Kay’s journey was one of love, dedication, and joy. She graduated from Weir High School in 1974 and, on August 25, 1978, married the luck of his life, Jerry Angelo. Together, they were blessed with two daughters and a son, as well as two beloved grandchildren.
Mary Kay was motherly, thoughtful, a great wife, protector, patient, and the rock of the family. Mary Kay was a beacon of strength and compassion. Her warm and welcoming nature meant she never met a stranger; she effortlessly connected with people and lived life to the fullest. A woman of faith, she exemplified love and care for others over herself.
Mary Kay had two fulfilling careers. She selflessly took on the role of head of household for 18 years and returned to the workforce as her children entered college. She retired as the Vice President’s Administrative Assistant at FedEx.
Mary Kay was an active member of Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Weirton, where her faith played a central role in her life. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life like going to breakfast with her family, playing pickleball, gossiping with her friends, soaking up time with her grandkids, and laughing with her siblings, nieces, and nephews. Her competitive spirit shone even on family game nights, where her infectious laugh echoed throughout the room.
In addition to her parents, Mary Kay was also preceded in death by her brother, James Barnabei.
Mary Kay’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and selflessness. Her impact on those around her is immeasurable, and she will be dearly missed by her husband, Jerry Angelo; her daughters, Stacey Angelo (Anthony Ziglear), and Christina Angelo (Chad Galownia); her son, Charles Angelo (Lauren) grandchildren, Cecilia and Arturo Angelo; sisters Emily Roman (Edward) and Peggy Kula (Ted); brothers, Dominic Barnabei (Janet) and Paul Barnabei (Cathy) and countless nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will gather on Tuesday from 2 -7 PM at the Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Weirton.

One consolation to this tragic situation is the knowledge that because of our faiths this is not going to be “goodbye” but “see you later”.

Jerry, Peggy, Paul, Emily and family: I am so heart broken and so deeply, deeply sorry for your loss. No words can help the pain we feel when we lose a friend or loved one. As I just read the other day: Death takes our body, God takes our souls. Our minds hold our memories and our faith lets us know we’ll meet again. The Lord truly took another angel home.
Thoughts and prayers to Jerry and family!🙏🙏
