Mary Madeline Spetek, beloved wife, mother, and pillar of her church community, peacefully passed away at Evergreen Personal Care Home in Washington, PA, under the caring hearts of Concordia Hospice Services on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
She was born on February 6, 1928, in Houston, PA, to the loving embrace of Edmund and Anna Rodenski Cononge, and was one of four cherished children.
Mary’s journey through life was marked by warmth, devotion, and a steadfast commitment to her loved ones. She received her education at the Chartiers-Houston School District, where she laid the foundation for her future endeavors. On August 17, 1947, she embarked on a lifelong journey with the love of her life, Joseph E. Spetek, whom she cherished deeply.
As a mother and homemaker, Mary found boundless joy in nurturing her family and creating a welcoming home. Her abiding faith was a guiding light, and she found solace and community in her attendance at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Mary’s spirit was as vibrant as her love for life itself. She found delight in the simple pleasures; cherishing moments spent at home surrounded by her loved ones. Her enthusiasm for fellowship was evident in her weekly Friday night five hundred card games with cherished family where laughter and camaraderie flowed freely.
An aficionado of polka music, Mary’s joyous spirit found expression in the lively rhythms and melodies that filled her home. She was a dedicated worker at the St. Thomas’ Peach Festival, where her tireless efforts and leadership left an indelible mark on the community she held dear.
Most notably, Mary possessed a remarkable capacity for thoughtfulness and compassion. She had an extraordinary memory, never failing to acknowledge and celebrate the birthdays and anniversaries of those she held dear, sending annual greeting cards filled with love and well wishes.
Mary Madeline Spetek’s legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion will forever echo in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Though she may have departed this world, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who were touched by her grace.
Mary’s memory will be honored and cherished by her loving family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love that she so generously shared throughout her remarkable life.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph E. Spetek brother-in-law Stanley Osiecki, sister Violet Mrock, and her husband Lloyd.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Linda Kovalsky of Birmingham, MI., and Cathy Spetek of Weirton, brother Edmund (Nancy) Cononge of Canonsburg, and sister Anna Mae Osiecki of Washington, PA., and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with Mary’s family on Tuesday, from 11 am until the time of the 1 pm funeral service at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Reverend William C. Stout will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 300 Three Springs Dr. Weirton, WV. 26062 in memory of Mary’s lifelong devotion to her faith and community.
