Mary Rose Spano of Weirton, WV, died Sunday, March 14, 2021, at the Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, IN. Mary Rose was born in Weirton, WV, on September 23, 1932, the firstborn of three daughters to Nunzio and Josephine Reda Veltri. Mary Rose graduated from Weir High School. On June 22, 1957, she married James Spano. Jim worked at the Tin Mill at Weirton Steel, and Mary Rose took care of their home. She also worked outside her home for Dr. Anthny Yurko and Dr. Lupinetti. In their 48 years of marriage, they were blessed with a daughter and two grandchildren. Mary Rose enjoyed bowling with her husband, Jim. She also cherished the many social activities with her husband, including bus trips to WVU games and bus trips with the fun-seekers. Mary Rose enjoyed working the voting polls for over 30 years and spending time at Mountaineer Park having dinner and playing the machines with her lady friends. Most of all, Mary Rose enjoyed spending time with her family. Mary Rose was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Beta Sigma Phi, Four Seasons, ISDA Weirtonian Lodge, AARP, and the Fun Seekers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James on June 24, 2005, and her sister, Gloria McKenna, on May 14, 2016. She will be remembered with love by her daughter, Nancy Coxen and her son-in-law, Larry Coxen; her grandchildren, Lauren Coxen and her fiancé Tim Elick; Brandon Coxen and his fiancé, Emily Prendergast; and her sister, Delores (Tony) LaRosa. Visitation will be Friday 11:00 AM until the noon Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Entombment will follow at Saint Paul’s Catholic Cemetery. Most recently when my father was in Weirton Medical I saw your mother in the parking lot and she took the time to stop me and ask me how my father was doing. Such a loving and compassionate woman.
