Mary V. Village, 84, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2005 at the Weirton Medical Center. Born January 8, 1921 in Erie, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Nick and Fira Philipe Verdea, Sr. Mary was also preceded in death by her husband George Village Jr.; brother Nick Verdea, Jr. and sister Florence Raica. Mary was a homemaker and, prior to her marriage on September 20, 1941, worked at General Electric in Erie, PA. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, the St. Thomas Altar Guild, St. Elizabeth Guild and in the late 40’s and early 50’s, was a member of the Weirton Junior Women’s Club where she served as historian for 2 years. Mary’s survivors include her son George Village III; daughter Carol Village both of Weirton; sister Emily Secarea of Champain, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday 7-9PM and Sunday 1-3 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11AM Monday at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Rev. Geoffrey Coupland presiding. Interment will be at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery in Florence, PA.
