Maxine Mary Cenker of Weirton passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021. She was 82. Maxine was born in Pittsburgh, Pa, on February 12, 1939, the only child born to George and Mary Kamarec Yacos, Jr. Maxine grew up in Weirton, WV, and graduated from Follansbee High School in 1957. She continued her education at the Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse in 1960. On Maxine and Ed's birthdays, they received a Papal dispensation, and Maxine married Korean War Veteran Edward Cenker on Sunday, February 12, 1961. Ed worked at Weirton Steel, and Maxine worked for Weirton General Hospital for ten years, and Serra Village as an RN for an additional 39 years. In their 60 years of marriage, they were blessed with four children and four grandchildren. Ed and Maxine's life revolved around their faith and their church. Around the home, Maxine was an award-winning chef and baker. She was featured in local cookbooks and was the recipient of numerous cooking and baking awards. In 1995 her creations were published in the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook. In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Joseph Cenker, on August 31, 2017, and her grandson Chayne Gregory Haynes on April 18, 2017. Maxine will be remembered with love by her sons, Gregory (Jackie) and Stephen Cenker; her daughters, Anna Marie Decker (Jeff Francis) and Christine Cenker.; her grandchildren, Michael (Marley) Cenker, Casey( Amanda) Decker, and Rachel (Jonathan Plohal) Kerr. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Thursday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street. Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday at the Saint Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Weirton, WV. Interment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery in Weirton.
