Melvin Arena, 67, of Weirton died Friday, January 23, 2004, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born on March 1, 1936, in Weirton, WV, the son of the late Benny Salokovich and Mildred Malkovich Arena. Mel was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Pat F. Arena, and his son, James D. Arena. Mel retired from Starvaggi Industries, where he worked as a controller. He served his country in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church. He is survived by his wife, Betty Williams Arena of Weirton, whom he married on February 26, 1958; a daughter, Beverly Bainbridge and her husband Jim of Weirton; three brothers, Donald Salokovich of Follansbee, WV, Jim and Robert Arena of Durham, NC; a sister, Mary Jo Arena of Durham, NC; and a granddaughter, Rachel E. Bainbridge of Weirton, WV. Visitation will be from 10 AM until time of service at 12 PM Tuesday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Rev. Fr. Rade Merick will preside. Interment will follow at the Serbian Cemetery, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 1221A Ohio Street, P.O. Box 1115, Dunbar, WV 25064.
