Meriam ''Stubby'' Stoneking
September 6, 1920 ~ March 31, 2003
Meriam L. “Stubby” Stoneking, 82, of Elkins, WV, formerly of Weirton, died Monday, March 31, 2003 at her son’s residence. She was born September 6, 1920 in Doddridge County, daughter of the late Luther and Addie Ferguson Keys. Meriam was preceded in death by her husband, Clairmont Stoneking in 1987.
Meriam was a homemaker and a Charter member of the Kings Creek Union Chapel in Weirton.
She is survived by her sons, Bruce Stoneking and his wife Sandy of Elkins, and Benny Stoneking and Arlie of Weirton; two sisters, Marie Mercer of East Liverpool, OH, and Edie Maxwell and her husband Ed of Middlebourne, WV. Meriam also has 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 1 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00PM at the Kings Creek Union Chapel, North 12th Street & Kings Creek Road, Weirton, where funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday. Rev. William Hammond will officiate. Meriam will lie in state Wednesday at the Mt. Mariah Baptist Church in Alma, WV from 1:30 to 2:30 PM. Committal services will follow at the Beechwood Cemetery in Alma, WV where Rev. Earl Fletcher will officiate.

I remember my late mother (Bernadine Keys Ash) talking to and of her cousins “Stubby,” Marie and Edie, when I was young. I remember, too, Bruce and Benny as little boys. My sincere sympathies to all of her family.
