Michael Douglas Gordon, 71, passed away December 20, 2022, at Weirton Medical Center.
A lifelong resident of Weirton WV, he was born March 29, 1951, to the late Theodore “Ted” and Mary Gordon. He is survived by his loving daughter Amanda (Matt) Gordon-Allard, his faithful German Shepherd Fritz; five sisters Teddi Whalen, Dr. Stephanie (Mitch) Batalo, Patti Visyak, Georgette (Isaac) Byard, Dr. Jackie Gordon (Kerry) Fox and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Andrew “Andy Jo” Gordon and brothers-in-law Bill Whalen and Dale Visyak.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman and thoroughly enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. He was accomplished at both sports and made lifelong friends along the way. He also loved dogs, especially German Shepherds, and often mentioned Fritz in any conversation possible. Mike was very close to his daughter Amanda, and they enjoyed rooting for their favorite teams (Steelers, Pirates, & Buckeyes) together; often texting or calling throughout the games and watching together when able. He also enjoyed “playing his numbers” at Granato’s Deli and maintained a wish list of those he was closest to fulfill if he ever hit the Powerball.
Mike graduated from Weir High School in 1969 and worked at Weirton Steel to put himself through West Liberty where he earned a Bachelor’s in Political Science. He served the community for thirty years on the Weirton Police Department in a variety of roles including ten years as Captain before retiring as Chief. During his career, he was able to computerize the Weirton Police Department, implement a team of K-9 units, and worked on a variety of WV Department of Highway Safety initiatives.
He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church and served as an usher for many years.
Mike will be greatly missed by his loved ones and remembered fondly by his friends. All are welcome to celebrate Mike’s life and legacy during visitation Tuesday December 27, 2022, 10:30a – 12:30p at Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
