Michael John Koper, Sr., 95, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2011 in the Weirton Medical Center. Born September 25, 1916 in Weirton, he was the son of the late John and Magdalena Banas Koper. He was also preceded in death by his wife Bernice Trojanoski Koper who died in 1990, brothers Andy, John, Carl and Joe Koper and sister Helen Tesnar. Mr.Koper retired from National Steel with 44 years of service where he worked as a mechanic. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, WSX 25-Year Club, Knights of Columbus 3734, Weirton Moose Lodge 688 and the Weirton FOP Lodge. He loved to go fishing and bowling with his family and friends. Mr. Koper is survived by his son Michael J. Koper and his wife Dolores of New Cumberland, WV; daughters Pat (Ed) Wells of Tampa, FL, Barbara (Tom) Hervey of Jacksonville, FL and Diane (Joe) Stankiewicz of Weirton; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where a prayer service will be held at 6PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Tuesday at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church with Father Joseph Augustine officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, P. O. Box 2247, Weirton, WV 26062.
