Michael R. Klug, 61, of Laredo, Texas, formerly of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Doctors Hospital of Laredo. Born October 22, 1945, in Wheeling, WV, he was the son of the late Richard E. and Rozella Schaefer Klug. Michael was also preceded in death by his sister Elaine Coyne. With 33 years of service, Mike retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as superintendent of the Strip Steel Department. After retiring from Weirton Steel, he started a second career with Newell Rubbermaid serving as plant manager for the following subsidiaries: Mirro Corporation in Manitowac, Wisconsin; Wearever in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico; and BernzOmatic in Medina, New York. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton Knights of Columbus 3734, Jr. Don Football, Madonna High School Boosters and the Weirton Baseball Association. Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years Eleanor Paidock Klug of Laredo, TX, formerly of Weirton; sons Richard M. Klug, Jr. and wife Jennifer of East Norriton, PA; Robert J. “Bobby” Klug, Sr. and wife Carla of Charleston, SC; sister Linda Curtis of Greenbelt, MD, brother Patrick Klug and wife Rhonda of North Wildwood, NJ; and grandchildren Robert J. Jr., Lauren E., Samantha B. and Isabella A. Klug. Friends will be received Sunday 1-3 and 6-8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Monday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church with Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Mike’s name to St. Joseph the Worker Church; Madonna High School or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.   12. Hello Klug Family, please accept my sympathy. I worked with Mike as a fellow Plant Mgr at Mirro in the 90’s, and then when he ran the Mexcio facility I was a Sales Mgr for Wearever . My career with Mirro Wearever was from 1981 to 2006 and I had the pleasure to deal with Mike on many occasions. I always knew him to be a “straight shooter”, honest and caring, he always had an interesting story to tell. We got along very well and I will miss him, but, he is in a better place. Again my condolences.

I had the pleasure of working for Mike in Mexico after knowing him for a couple of years in Manitowoc. He was a good man that was sincere, genuine and wore his heart on his sleeve. I will pray for you and him as Mike passes from this life and is comforted in our Lord’s loving embrace. May God’s grace give you strength during this time of pain and loss.
