Michael Wilson Sinicropi, 79, of Weirton, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH. He was born August 11, 1925 in East Liverpool, OH. Michael was preceded in death by his father Pasquale Sinicropi and his mother Josephine Mueller Sinicropi; two brothers, Pasquale, Jr. and Frank and a sister, Elvira of Reggio Calabria, Italy and his beloved wife Teresa Germano Sinicropi in 1972. He is survived by his only child, his daughter Celeste Teresh and her husband John and his step-granddaughter Tonia Teresh of Davis, CA; brother Armando and his wife Nancy of Bloomingdale, OH; two sisters Antoinette Pirrello and Elvira Falcomella and her husband Tiberio all of Reggio Calabria, Italy. He is also survived by two brother-in-laws, Ray Germano of California and Richard Germano of New Port Richey, Florida and a sister-in-law Norma Germano Atsalis and her husband Steve of Weirton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Sinicropi was employed by Starvaggi Industries as a Coal Analyst for 28 years; Quality Control Supervisor of American Industries & Resources Corporation. In 1975, he served as General Manager of Universal Coal & Energy in Columbia, Missouri, was promoted to the position of Vice President in 1978 and moved to the position of President in October, 1978. He was also employed by Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort. Sinicropi hosted the Cosmopolitan Cultural Hour on WEIR Radio for 52 years. Sinicropi was devoted to community life. Some of his activities include: Chairman of Weirton’s 4th of July Parade Commission for 17 years; Chairman of the Hancock County Heart Association Committee for 17 years; Chairman of the Weirton Crime Stop Commission for 17 years; Vice-Chariman of the Hancock County Planning Commission for 14 years; Member of the West Virginia Commission on Energy, Economy and Environment; Member of the American Enforcement Association; Member of the Oil & Gas Conservation Commission of West Virginia; Member of the Missouri Governor’s Advisory Commission; Chairman of the Weirton 25th Anniversary Committee; Co-Chairman of the Weirton 50th Anniversary Committee; President of the Weirtonian Lodge #183, Order Italian Sons & Daughters of America for 27 years; National Counselor and National representative of the Order Italian Sons and Daughters of America; Member of the ISDA Fraternal Insurance Association; Chairman of the Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee for 29 years; Member of the Board and Executive Committee of the Upper Ohio Valley Italian Festival; Chairman of the Upper Ohio Valley Italian Festival in 1998, 1999 and 2000; Teacher of the Italian language at WVNCC, Weirton Branch for 3 years; Was listed in Who’s Who in American Politics annually since 1971; was selected for inclusion in the Library of Human Resources of the American Heritage Research Association; Listed in the Golden Society of Executive Officers for 12 years; Received the title of Grand Knight of the Republic of Italy from Italian President Giuseppe Saragat in 1966; was made part of the U.S. Congressional Record on May 3, 1963, May 3, 1971 , April 28, 1972 and October 21, 1977; was Correspondent of the Italian newspapers “The Unione” of Pittsburgh, “Il Pensiero” of St. Louis, “Cronache D’Italia” of Milan, Italy. Mike also contributed editorial to the Weirton Daily Times and the Steubenville Herald Star occasionally. His work in newspapers dates back to 1945 when he worked for a pro-American weekly “The New Youth” published in southern Italy in the city of Reggio Calabria. Friends will be received Sunday from 7-9PM and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Tuesday at the Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Weirton. Interment will follow in Three Springs Cemetery.
