Mike P. Ballato

Mike P. Ballato, 89, of Weirton, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at his home. Born January 19, 1915 in Weirton, he is the son of the late Carmelo and Rosaria (Maiolino) Ballato. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Mary (Casioli) Ballato October 21, 1986 and brother, Sarro Ballato. Mike retired from Starvaggi Industries with 45 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church where he served as an usher, was a member of the Holy Name Society, and the Weirton Area Ambulance & Rescue Squad. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the 13th Armored Division, 24th Tank Battalion of the Black Cats. Mike was also a former member of the American Legion Post 10 and Knights of St. George. Mike’s survivors include his sons, Charles L. Ballato and Michael J. Ballato and his wife Kathleen (Barnabei); brothers, Charles “Chappy” Ballato and Frank Ballato, all of Weirton; sisters, Carmella D’Alesio of Weirton and Serra Dickey of Pittsburgh; half-brother, Costantino Ballato; half-sister, Maria Ballato, both of Sant Angelo DiBrolo, Italy; six grandchildren, Dana, Joseph, Robert, Michael, Jonathan and Charles Ballato; and one great-grandson, Anthony. Friends will be received Saturday 7-9 and Sunday 1-3 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where a prayer service will be held 7:30 PM Saturday. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville, Ohio where military services will be conducted by the Weirton V.F.W. Post 2716 Firing Squad, the Evert Maki American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard, and the Tri-State Marine Corps.
