Milan "Milo" Evkovich, 86, of Weirton died Wednesday July 2, 2008, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born on October 16, 1921 in Hills Vale, PA the son of the late Eli and Martha Visnic Evkovich. Milo was also preceded in death by his wife Dolores Gryskevich Evkovich, his grandson Milo Wright, and his sisters, Sarah Sikey Evkovich and Bess Anderson. Milo served in the US Army in the Normandy Campaign, the Northern France Campaign, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe as a staff sergeant during World War II. He was decorated with the Purple Heart Oak Leaf Cluster, when he was wounded in action in France and Belgium. He also was decorated with five bronze stars. When he returned to Weirton, Milo worked for National Steel Corporation, where he retired after 40 years of service as the superintendent of the Weirton Steel Finished Product Warehouse. He was a member of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church, the Pleasant Valley Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf with his wife. Milo is survived by his son Eli Milan Evkovich and his wife Mary; his daughter, Marta and her husband F. W. "Shag" Wright all of Weirton; his grandchildren Ian Milan Evkovich and Sarah Wright; his great grandson, Charles Shilo Wright. Visitation will be 4-8PM Thursday at the Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where services will be held 10AM Friday. The Very Reverend Father Rade Merick will preside. Pomen services will be held 6:30PM Thursday in the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
