Mitchell Edward (Mitch) Klukowski

Mitchell Edward “Mitch” Klukowski, 87, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011 in the Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH. Born April 18, 1924 in Hamtramck, MI, he was a son of the late Joseph and Antonia Bejster Klukowski. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Tony and Chester Klukowski.
In 1989, with over 30 years of service for Weirton Steel, Mitch worked as a scarfer in the Blooming Mill. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 3734 and the American Legion Post 10. He was also a life member of the VFW 2716 in Weirton. During World War II, he served overseas in the United States Navy.
Mr. Klukowski is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Drakos Klukowski whom he married November 8, 1947; daughter Michele Corbin and her husband Joseph all of Weirton; sister Genevieve Taylor of Michigan; granddaughter Nicole Barnhart and her husband David of Fairmont, WV and 2 great-grandchildren Cole and Autumn Barnhart.
Friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Saturday at the St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. The Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer will officiate. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton with military services being conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad.
