Nancy F. Pratt-Wise, 88, of Weirton, WV, passed away at the Country Club Manor in Steubenville, Ohio, on Sunday, May 26, 2024.
Born in Tyler County, WV, on July 30, 1935, Nancy was one of twelve children born to Amidy and Susan M. McGeorge Griffin.
At the age of 17, Nancy married Elden E. “Bud” Pratt when he returned from the Korean War. They spent the majority of their married life in Weirton, WV, where they were blessed with six children, fourteen grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Bud worked in the mill, and Nancy devoted her life to taking care of their home and family.
Nancy was known for her warm and welcoming nature, never meeting a stranger and always ready to embark on an adventure at a moment’s notice. She faithfully attended every grandchild’s sporting event, despite not understanding the rules, simply to show her unwavering support. Nancy enjoyed visiting flea markets, craft shows, and playing BINGO. She was famous for her delicious pancakes and fresh berry cakes.
Her love for travel took her to places far and near, including Hawaii, Niagara Falls, and river cruises. Nancy had a deep love for country music, with a special fondness for Bill Anderson. After the passing of her beloved husband Bud on May 19, 1997, she found love again with Harley Wise, Sr. They met at Country Friends in Colliers, WV, and shared many happy years together until Harley’s passing on May 19, 2014.
Nancy nourished her faith for years at the Weirton Alliance Church and found great joy in having a house full of grandchildren. Her faith and family were the cornerstones of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Elden E. “Bud” Pratt, her second husband Harley Wise, Sr., her three sons Albert, Howard, and Clark Pratt, her brothers Jimmy, Brantley, and Paul Griffin, her sisters Geneva Smith, Betty Pratt, Wilma Smith, and Mamie “Pudge” Moore, her grandson Luke, and her two great-granddaughters Jordan and Coraline.
Nancy will be remembered with love by her three daughters, Ellen Davis, Lisa Pratt, and Tawnya (Chuck) Pierce, all of Weirton, WV; her step son, Harley (Joan) Wise, Jr., and her bonus son, Chuck Rice; her brother Bobby Griffin of Shirley, WV; her sisters, Lucille Bailey of Belpre, OH, Ruth Ann (Harry) Stiltner of Utica, OH, and Sandy (Ralph “Jr.”) Underwood of Alma, WV; her grandchildren, Shawn (Autumn), Amy (Rob), Amanda (Kurt), Aaron, Elizabeth (Brian), Sam (Lacie), Marie (Tyler), Justin (Connie), Andrew (Alivia), Renea (Alan), Taryn, Cori, and Mackenzie; as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 AM until the funeral service at noon at Furbee Williams Funeral Home in Alma, WV.
Kenny Williamson will preside.
Interment will follow at the Wilbur Cemetery in Wilbur, WV.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks in honor of her great grandson.
