nick enich

Nick Enich, Jr., 66, of New Albany, Ohio, formerly of Weirton, WV passed away on September 1, 2025, after an twelve-year battle with metastatic prostate cancer.

Born March 23, 1959, Nick was the first of two sons born to Nick Enich, Sr. and Dorothy “Saya” Rajak Enich.
Raised in Weirton, Nick attended Cove School and Weir Junior High before graduating with the Weir High School Class of 1977, where he was active in Key Club. In his youth he helped his mother at the family’s Enich’s Superette on Orchard Street in downtown Weirton; early lessons in hard work and quiet kindness that shaped the rest of his life.

As fate would have it, one day while he was at Millsop Community Center, Nick met the love of his life, Debbie Compston of Wintersville, Ohio. The two later married in Phoenix, Arizona, while Nick was on a three-year project for Kokosing. Over a long and respected career, he rose to construction superintendent and eventually retired from Kokosing. Steady, mild-mannered, and easygoing, Nick was the definition of a family man.

His greatest joy was being “Dad” to his daughter, Elaina. He traveled up and down the East Coast to watch her play lacrosse; from her earliest games through her collegiate career at the University of Cincinnati; and proudly cheered her on when she returned to the sport as Head Coach of the New Albany High School Girls Lacrosse team.

A lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan, Nick shared countless memories with his brother, Dan, including trips together to two Super Bowls and a World Series game.

He was baptized Serbian Orthodox Christian and carried his faith throughout his life.

Nick was preceded in death by his mother on November 12, 1980, and his father on July 11, 2004.

He will be remembered with love by his wife, Debbie Compston Enich; his daughter, Elaina Enich; his brother, Dan (Lisa) Enich; and extended family and friends who were blessed to know him.

A visitation will be held from 1 PM until 3 PM on Saturday September 20th at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street, Weirton; followed by a celebration of Nick’s life at 3 PM.
