Nick "Fido" Wounaris, 84, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2010 in the Weirton Medical Center. Born December 19, 1925 in Weirton, he was a son of the late William and Kathryn Wounaris. He was also preceded in death by his daughters Mary Ann and Stephanie Wounaris and brothers Steve and Stelios Wounaris. Nick retired from Weirton Steel where he worked in the Open Hearth and Caster Department. He was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church and WSX 25-Year Club. Nick truly enjoyed fishing at Lake Erie and the local lakes with his family and friends. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Wounaris is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Ann "Babe" Keser Wounaris; son Nick Wounaris, Jr. of Charleston, WV; daughter Antoinette "Shine" Fair and her husband Bill of Weirton; sisters Mary Madias and Athena Vafias both of Detroit, Michigan; grandchildren Amy Sargent and William Fair and great-grandson William Jackson Fair. There will be no visitation. The Reverend Father Frank Milanese will celebrate the private funeral services at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. Interment will be in the Paris Cemetery, Paris, PA where Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad. Arrangements are under the direction of Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV 26062. Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 3528 West Street, Weirton, WV 26062 or Hancock County Animal Shelter, P. O. Box 508, New Manchester, WV 26056.

  3. Our sorrow goes out to the remaining Wounaris Family. My Dad and Fido worked many years together in the Open Hearth and were long time fishing buddies. There were many a fish story told at the 201 Club on main st. North Weirton.
