Omar D. Jenkins of Weirton passed away at the Weirton Medical Center on Friday, November 18, 2022. He was 85 years old.
He was born on March 12, 1937, in Morgantown, WV., one of two sons born to Edwin and Nellie Hill Jenkins.
Omar was a 62-year member of UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #152 as a fitter/welder. He served as a business agent upon retirement. He was a graduate of West Fairmont High School and a avid West Virginia Mountaineer fan, he always found time to cheer on the Blue and Gold!
Omar served his country proudly in the United States Navy 1955-59.
He was described fondly by his family as a “Gentle Giant,” and yet others said he was the “Best Man Alive!” His love and protection for his family made him a man whom many wanted to pattern their life after. His son-in-law Allen referred to Omar as the “Best man he ever knew!”
He married the love of his life, Dorothy Beatty on July 3, 1978, and they were blessed with their extended family of four wonderful children.
In addition to his parents, Omar was preceded in death by his son, James Delano Jenkins, brother John E. Jenkins and his sister-in-law Victoria Jean Jenkins.
Left to cherish his memory with love and admiration are his wife Dorothy of Weirton, daughters Kimbra (Wade) Hooper of Gadsden, AL, Jo Ann (Joe) O’Toole of Waynesboro, PA., and Jennifer (Allen) Hess of Weirton, grandchildren Krista, JD, Julia, Joshua, Justin, Kain, and Kayla, great-grandchildren Jalyn, Bella, Dalton, Cooper, Callen, and Maxine, and several nieces and nephews, and a special soon to be grandson-in-law, Logan Reckner.
Omar’s wish for cremation has been honored.
At his request, no public services will be conducted.

May the love of God surround you and your family during this difficult time,
May you come to know that the love of God is with you always,
May your memories of Omar D. Jenkins, give you peace, comfort and strength…
Rest now in the arms of our Lord your mission on earth is complete.
I thank you for your service to our Country and my Freedom. You will not be forgotten.

Dorothy and family, I’m so sorry you all have lost a great man. May you hold close to one another and support each other during this difficult time. Much love to you, my friend.
My sympathies, Dorothy and family. Always loved talking with you both.
Delano was a very good friend since our early years in Jr. High School. I have never known a man with a happier grasp of love for life and family. We were both in the flying part of the military so we had many stories to tell. Delano was well schooled in life, a hard worker, and a friend of all. A better man I have not known, and I am saddened by his passing as are all of his many friends he had. For the good reason of his love of life, Delano was a most popular and beloved classmate of our 1955 graduating class at Fairmont Senior High School. Never to be forgotten.
