It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Paul “Bear” Clayton Scott, who passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, at the age of sixty. He was a kind, loving, and caring individual whose humorous and witty personality will be greatly missed.
Born December 23, 1964, Paul was a son of the late Donald Lee (November 7, 2000) and Josephine A Scott(July 8, 2024) of Weirton. Paul has been a lifelong resident of Weirton where he spent numerous years volunteering his time and efforts as a member of the Oakland District Volunteer Fire Department.
As a teenager, Paul felt the call of service as a firefighter, and upon graduation he pursued and graduated with an associate’s degree in Fire Sciences from West Virginia Northern Community College. He rose through the ranks at Oakland and ultimately served as Fire Chief during his tenure.
As a child Paul was inquisitive, questioning, and competitive. These qualities either got him into mischief or helped him excel intellectually. As a teenager, he loved video games and figuring out the patterns to master the levels. He wanted to understand how things worked and why, like solving a puzzle. These skills would be integral to his life and his job. Paul was mechanically inclined with great problem-solving abilities which were beneficial in his employment at Mondi, an industrial packaging factory in Wellsburg, West Virginia. In his thirty-nine years of service, his work ethic, experience, knowledge, and dedication helped him in his position as Production Supervisor.
Paul loved great conversation with his friends and family. He was a history buff with an incredible recollection of significant world events, an equally impressive ability to recall interesting facts on pop culture, movies, and music, and could serve as a fantastic partner for trivia nights. Paul was also very interested in politics and enjoyed a spirited debate on important topics. He loved watching football, especially with his brother on Sundays, and was a passionate fan of the Chicago Bears.
Paul is survived by his four siblings, Rose-Ann (Tom) Grossi of Weirton, Donald Lance (Terry) Scott of Weirton, Lauralee Irene (William) Webster of Irwin, PA., and Alesa Marie (John) Martin of Charleston, WV., as well as his many nieces and nephews.
Friends can visit Paul’s family on Friday, January 10, from 11 am until the time of his Noon funeral service at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV., 26062.
Private family interment will immediately follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Pastor Rudy McAllister will officiate.
