Peter G. Karavanic
April 13, 1918 ~ May 5, 2002
Peter G. Karavanic passed away on May 5, 2002, at his home, surrounded by those who loved him.
He was the son of Martin and Margaret (Ticich) Karavanic.
Peter will be missed by his wife, Mabel; his sons, Tom and Chuck; his daughter, Kris, and the many friends that he made during his life here.
Peter served his country in the United States Army from February 11, 1943 until June 19, 1946, and then as commander of the local Army Reserve Unit, retiring on April 13, 1978, with the rank of Major.
Peter loved and cherished his family above all. He was a friend to all who knew him. His smile would brighten a day and his voice command attention.
He and his uncle, the late Albert Ticich, built the Old Oak Service and passed it on to Tom. He watched his son, Chuck, build the Breeze Thru Deli and Sports Court Lounge, and could not have been more proud. Peter loved his son-in-law and daughters-in-law as if they were his own children and reveled in the joy that his grandchildren brought him.
Peter will be cremated and his cremated remains will be entombed at the Arlington National Cemetery.
His family will have a memorial, in a celebration of his life, on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 from 2-4 PM at the Serbian American Cultural Center Grand Ballroom, Weirton. Friends and family are invited to attend, to share their feelings or memories.
We will miss him more than words can express. Thank you to everyone who supported us and helped us cope.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hancock County Unit PO Box 2166, Weirton, WV.
