August 21, 1946 ~ February 17, 2021
Peter Paul Altomare, Jr. of Weirton, WV, died Wednesday, February 17, 2021. He was 74 years old.
Peter Paul was born in Steubenville, OH, on August 21, 1946, to Peter Paul and Rose Torchio Altomare, Sr.
Paul grew up in Weirton and graduated from Weirton Madonna High School in 1964, where he was a member of the OVAC Champion football team coached by Joe Krivak.
Paul served as a Sargent in the United States Army in the First Signal Group in Vietnam.
Returning to Weirton, Paul had a 30-year career with Weirton Steel, where he worked in the tin mill and was a union steward for 15 years. In the early 80's Paul and his friends Pat and Bill opened up Pat's Place, a popular nightspot in Weirton.
After retiring from the mill, Paul carried on the family tradition of working as a barber, which now carries on for three generations with his son Paul A.
Paul also worked for the State of West Virginia as an ABCC Commissioner and later followed in his father's footsteps as a code enforcement officer for the City of Weirton.
Paul was a member of the Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, K of C 3734, VFW 2716, and the American Legion Post 10. He also served on the Weirton Housing Authority Board.
When he was not working, he enjoyed fishing with his friends, Eddie, Chuck, and Mark. He also enjoyed making wine and sauce and joining his buddies at the Weirton Bus Terminal for coffee.
Most of all, Paul will be remembered for the love he had for others, especially his family. He lived for his grandchildren. He loved, and in return, he was loved by all who knew him.
Paul will be remembered with love by his first wife of twenty years, Kathy Pitcock Altomare, his second wife of 25 years, Carol Christine Reitter Altomare; his children, Paul A. and Alissa Altomare, and Antonio and Francesca Altomare; and his loving granddaughters, Aliana and Ava Altomare.
Visitation will be held from 3 PM until 5 PM Saturday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street.
Military Honors and service will begin at 5 PM in the funeral home.
Paul's family understands that if you do not feel comfortable attending his visitation and service, they welcome your love and prayers from a distance.

I spent a lot of time with Paul in the union hall and we had many good times. He was a great guy and will be missed by all who knew him . My condolences to Paul’s family and friends. RIP
My name is Betty (Petter) Angelino and I, too, was one of the neighborhood “kids” who would gather across the street from Paul’s house most evenings until the street lights came on and it was time to go home. The last time I was in Weirton, I was able to visit with Paul and we talked about all the great times we had growing up. It was a great trip down memory lane…. I always considered Paul to be one of my best friends and I am sure he will be greatly missed. My sympathy and many prayers go out to his family. Rest in Peace, dear friend.
Let every bloom serve as a reminder of our beloved Paul for years to come. With love, Christa (Altomare) Huber and family.

With deepest sympathy,
Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to Christine, Kathy and their families. I have been fortunate to have had Paul as a friend for almost 70 years. From St. Paul’s to Madonna to WVU, where we were roommates, then on through the years when I returned to visit family and friends in Weirton. My wife and I were blessed to spend the evening of our 55th reunion with Paul and Christine a few years ago. May the grace of God be with you my dear friend. Camillo & Patsy Barone

“Peter Altomare, Jr.” will remain in our hearts forever.
Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.
When I was a kid, our family vacations involved piling into the station wagon and driving to Weirton, WV. We always stayed with “Grandma and Aunt Mary.” But we always had the most fun with Uncle Paul, and when he was around, Cousin Paulie. Then later we got to know Paul-Paul. Three outstanding men I’m proud to know and call family. We’ll miss Paul Jr. just as I still miss Uncle Paul. Rest in peace. Love, Mark Altomare

Paul, Alissa and Kathy, sending compassion for Your family in this hard time, and sharing my love and memories He was so connected to his children. This always impressed me So much. He connected with me too as a teenage and made sure Paul jr and I would stay out of trouble on the weekends! He even let us cruise around in his corvette and would give us a few bucks for pizza. He would make sure we kept an eye on Alissa since we were older. Paul and family were always great hosts. Went above and beyond to make me comfortable in their home miss and love you all. Rick Wieloh
Paul certainly had a charisma that everyone noticed. He always had a big smile on his face and was always extremely nice to me whenever Paul Jr. had me over. Still can’t believe he would let us drive his Corvette around at our younger ages. Going to miss him deeply, my Condolences to all Family members, he was a great Man! Love, Tom Battista
