Phillip Burdell Carey
April 23, 1974 ~ April 30, 2016
Phillip Burdell Carey, 42, of Weirton, WV died suddenly on Saturday April 30, 2016, at Trinity West E.R.
Born on April 23, 1974, in Steubenville, OH, Phil was a son of Phillip and Mary (Tinker) Rymasz Carey, of Weirton.
A Weir High graduate and U.S. Navy reservist, Phil was formerly employed with Dan Houk at Williams Country Club and later with Houk Lawn Service.
Known by many as the lead singer in the band Society Once Lost, Phil had a free spirit, and knew how to enjoy life to the fullest. His smile was as big as his heart, as he loved life. People were his interest.
Even though he might be remembered to be more of a hell raiser than a religious person, Phil was the epitome of the Bible verses of Matthew 25: 31-40. Phil was never one to pass judgement, but quick to house the homeless and feed the hungry.
In addition to his parents, Phillip and Tinker Carey, of Weirton, Phil is survived by his sister, Rebecca Hilbert and her husband, John of Pittsburgh, PA.
Visitation will be 3PM until time of services at 7 PM on Tuesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV
Reverend Dr. Ed Rudiger will preside.
In tribute to Phil's life memorial contributions may be made to the Weirton Community Bread Basket PO Box 154 Weirton, WV 26062. www.communitybreadbasketinc.org

\”If everything is lost, thanks be to God
If I must see it go, watch it go,
Watch it fade away, die
Thanks be to God that He is all I have
And if I have Him not, I have nothing at all
Nothing at all, only a farewell to the wind
Farewell to the grey sky
Goodbye, God be with you evening October sky
If all is lost, thanks be to God, For He is He, and I, I am only I.\”

My deepest condolences Phil, Tink, and Rebecca. I have not seen you all in such a long time, yet it still feels like yesterday that Phil and I were just kids. I remember when he got a fish tank in his room; I associate Quiet Riot and Aerosmith with him; I remember when i first met him in Kindergarten; and I even remember the last time I saw him at the Marl Inn – we played darts and listened to Bruce Springsteen play ‘Glory Days’ over and over again.
All of you have always held a place in my heart, and you always will. I am truly grateful to have such wonderful memories. My prayers are with you.
Over the years, since graduation, I would run into Phil from time to time whenever I found myself back home. That always made my day. Phil had a comforting, uplifting way. I am deeply saddened that I’ll never see you again buddy!
I have only the most positive things to say about the Carey family and Phil. He was such a good guy. I always loved to talk to him. My heart is with all of you during this difficult time.
So sorry to hear about the loss of your son. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. –

I met Phil in high school. I remember our bus rides back and forth to the vocational center in those days. We had a lot of laughs. Years after high school, I went to see him perform with his band. It was really cool that they played original songs. He and Paul also came to see me at a NYE gig one year. It was nice to catch up with him. Phil was a good dude with a big heart. I offer my sympathy to the Carey family. May the good memories you have of Phil bring peace to your hearts.

My first impression of Phil when I first met him was wow what a nut job! His dude ain’t right , met him through a friend years back little did we all know us three ended up working together. me Paul Oxier and Phil when ever there was a big welding job it was me and Phil side by side getting it done ,and before long we started a band, me,Phil, Pat Kush, Paul Oxier we called ourselves Society Once Lost .Almost as fast as it started it ended, although we had a blast doing what we all loved to do .I haven’t seen him for awhile but thought of him often .Thanks for the memories brother until we all meet again .PEACE

My deepest sympathy to Phil’s family. Phil always had a kind word and he told great stories. I remember he signed his senior picture to me “live good.” God bless you, Phil.
I have a lifetime of memories that include Phil. Growing up on Marland Heights was the best childhood for my generation!! Mr and Mrs Carey I cannot say enough how Phil will be missed. I hope and pray you can find peace and comfort someday knowing your son was a good man. And again he will be missed. So many smiles and laughs come to mind…. The Marlin (Camels Hump) hanging out , the juke box music we played the same songs over and over.,…. Oh the fun! As for you Phil…… Fly High my friend. You are loved and missed….
Phil and Tink…You are in our prayers and thoughts at this trying time. You have our deepest sympathy. God bless you and your family.

I didn’t know Phil, the hell raiser. I knew Phil, the polite, kind, gentle, respectful student. And I know Phil and Tink, the supportive, loving parents and the friends that I miss seeing. Know that you are never alone as you walk this journey together. May happy memories and faith sustain you, dear friends.
I am so sorry to see this. Phil had the best smile, laugh, and creative spirit. I also remember his tenderness and kindness. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Phil & Tink: May your happy & peaceful memories of Phil, family & friends carry you through difficult moments.
