Pietro “Pete” Rocchio, 76, of Weirton, WV passed away on October 24, 2023.
He was born on January 3, 1947, one of seven children born to Frank and Antoinette Dellicarpini Rocchio.
Pete’s life was marked by his dedication to his family, his passion for physical fitness, and his unwavering willingness to help others.
Pete’s years were spent in Weirton, West Virginia, where he graduated from Weir High School. After graduation, he began his career at Weirton Steel, in the boiler repair shop. He was fortunate to retire in his mid-fifties.
An avid outdoorsman, Pete found solace and joy in fishing, often traveling to Erie and Canada with his close friends to cast his line into the waters. He also earned recognition as an award-winning weightlifter at Ernie Nagy’s Gym.
Sports played a significant role in Pete’s life. He had a deep love for playing softball, basketball, and football, embracing the camaraderie and competition that these sports offered. His passion for athletics extended to his personal life, where he enjoyed working out and maintaining his physical fitness.
Pete had a culinary talent that was second to none. He loved to cook and grill for his family. Additionally, he had a passion for shopping, and to him, grocery shopping was not merely a chore but a social event where he interacted with friends and acquaintances.
His green thumb was another source of pride for Pete, as he could grow just about anything.
Pete’s kindness and generosity were boundless. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, as evidenced by the time he gave a stranger a belt from his own pants. His quiet acts of kindness and willingness to help, even when not seeking the limelight, touched the lives of many. Pete was an excellent caregiver, devoted to his mother and his brother, Patsy.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his two brothers, Domenic and Patsy, and his sister-in-law, Jolene.
He is survived by his brothers, Anthony (Alyssa) and Frank Rocchio; his sisters, Rose Gullotti (Michael) and Mary Jo Fracasso (Dario); 2 nephews,3 great nephews, 1 great niece.
Visitation will be 3 PM until 7 PM Sunday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Monday at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. Weirton.
Pete will be laid to rest next to his brother Patsy at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.
