ralph fuscardo

Ralph Michael Fuscardo, Sr., 92, of Weirton, WV, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on February 28, 1931, in Follansbee, WV, Ralph was one of seven children born to Francis “ Frank” and Mary Cosenza Fuscardo.

Ralph graduated from Weir High School in 1949, and he went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Upon returning home, Ralph, with the help of his friends, John and Helen Bright, went on a blind date. A blind date that would change his life forever. He met the love of his life, Betty Kotala, and on January 5, 1956, they exchanged vows, beginning a beautiful journey together. Their marriage was blessed with the joy of 6 children, 24 grandchildren, and an incredible 36 great-grandchildren. Family was the cornerstone of Ralph’s life, and he dedicated himself to their happiness and well-being.

Ralph devoted much of his professional life to serving his community as a fireman for the City of Weirton, and a four-year term as the Councilman of Ward 6. Meanwhile, Betty pursued a career as a nurse at the Weirton General Hospital.

Sadly, Betty passed away on April 7, 1998. Despite this profound loss, Ralph continued to embody the values of love, dedication, and commitment to his family. As his children grew older and established families of their own, Ralph became a constant source of support. He could often be found fixing and working on various projects at their homes, always ready to lend a helping hand.

Ralph took immense pride in his own home, maintaining an immaculate yard that garnered public recognition. Mayor Miller formally acknowledged his contributions to the beautification of the neighborhood, highlighting Ralph’s commitment to creating a welcoming and attractive home.

A man of many talents, Ralph had a passion for preparing meals for his family. Every Sunday, the family gathered for dinner at his home, and holidays were celebrated with joy and delicious feasts. His culinary skills were particularly renowned for his flavorful sauce, and his Easter ham and stuffing became cherished family favorites.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Ralph was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Fuscardo, Sr. and his two sister, Rose Marie Fuscardo and Florence Cassella.

He will be remembered with love by his sons, Michael (Shelly), Dr. Mitchell (Laura), Ralph M. “Chunky” Jr. (Rebecca) and Steven “Bo” (Recheal) Fuscardo; his two daughters, Marie Weigel (Terry) and Tina Buffo (John); his brothers, Sundo, Nick and Frank Fuscardo; his 24 grandchildren, and his 36 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 4-8 PM Thursday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton on Friday at 11:00, where Ralph was a faithful member.

He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Fuscardo family, especially Mike & Chunky who I grew up with: I so sorry for your loss. I think only a couple more of the “old neighborhood parents” are still with us. How blessed you are he was still here to enjoy that huge family! I will keep you in my prayers.

  2. Mr. Fuscardo was a good and kind man. He was very particular about his hair. His son did it whenever he wanted it done. I got to spend a little time with him when we’d see each other at our Dr’s office. He was still the same as he was when I knew him earlier. I want to say that it’s a great loss for the family. I know it’ll be very hard not to go and see him everyday. I need to say that I’ll miss him very much. I hope all of you have good memories with your dad, grandpa, and great grandpa. My condolences to all of the family. I feel your pain and loss in this difficult time. But know that he’s in your heart and mind so he’ll always be with you. Sincerely, Anthony S Guglielmo
