Raymond Kobily

Raymond “Ray” Kobily, 80, of Weirton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at UPMC Shadyside, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Steubenville, Ohio, on January 10, 1946, he was the youngest son of Stephen and Rose (Nowicki) Kobily. Ray was a proud graduate of Madonna High School, Class of 1963.

On May 4, 1968, he married the love of his life, Marcia Kovalik. Together, they shared 57 beautiful years of marriage. Ray served in the Army Reserve before beginning a long and successful career at Weirton Steel. During his time there, he held several positions before retiring.

Ray was a proud member of Cadiz Country Club, the 668 Moose Lodge, and the Polish National Association, where he cherished the many friendships he built over the years.

Ray was known for his wonderful sense of humor, feisty spirit, and love of life. An ardent sports fan, he passionately supported the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, Pirates, and the West Virginia Mountaineers. He loved playing golf, a pastime that created a special bond with his grandson, Patrick McDonald. At home, Ray took immense pride in maintaining a perfectly manicured lawn. At the end of the day, Ray could often be found relaxing on his back porch, where he enjoyed the simple pleasure of taking in the outdoors and spending time with those he loved. He also enjoyed doo-wop music, watching war movies, and challenging himself with crossword puzzles and Sudoku, a hobby he shared with his grandson, Joshua McDonald.

Above all else, Ray cherished his family. His daughter and grandsons brought him immeasurable joy and were his greatest source of pride.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Denise (Paul) Pownall of Weirton; his sister, Laverne Sutak of Follansbee, West Virginia; his brother, Steven (Mary) Kobily of Deltona, Florida; and his grandsons, Patrick McDonald of Dallas, Texas, and Joshua McDonald of Pensacola, Florida.

Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marcia; his parents; and his brothers, Edward, Bernard, and infant sister Jessica Kobily.

In accordance with Ray’s wishes, he will be cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home Crematory, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, West Virginia 26062.
