Regina Ann Brun
July 31, 1943 ~ April 26, 2020
Regina Ann Brun, 76, a devoted and caring mother and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020, after a courageous fight with Multiple Symptom Atrophy (MSA).
She was born on July 31, 1943, in Steubenville, OH, the sixth child of Frank and Mary Redeski Merenda.
When Regina was a young girl, her father passed away, and her mother cared for her and her seven siblings.
Regina graduated from Weirton Madonna High School in 1961.
In 1970 she married John Dominic Brun, and the couple was blessed with four children and six grandchildren over their 46 years of marriage.
Regina’s life centered around her family. In her late 40’s she battled cancer head-on. Her strong will and faith led her to beat it, allowing her to experience later her ultimate happiness of being a grandmother. One of the many cherished times she had over the years was teaching her children and grandchildren how to bake and cook. Her wedding soup and pasta recipes, as well as her chocolate sandwiches (a recipe from her sister Joanne), have been passed down three generations.
Regina enjoyed the outdoors, walking the beach during family vacations on Hilton Head Island, or quietly tending to her yard. A favorite pastime was going to yard sales and auctions with her husband, John. She had a keen eye for value and quality when it came to antiques.
Devoted and faithful, Regina nourished her faith at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and Immaculate Conception Church, where she was active in the Christian Mothers, and enjoyed volunteering her time.
In addition to her parents, Regina was preceded in death by her husband, John Dominic Brun, on September 14, 2016; and her sisters, Joanne Merenda, Rosemarie Colantonio, and Frances Risk.
She will be remembered with love by her three sons, John D. Brun, II (Alissa), Miguel Brun, and Joshua Brun (Gina); and her daughter, Angelica Kokiko (Chuck); her brothers, Frank Merenda, and Carl (Donna) Merenda; sisters, Delores Frisco, and Eleanora Kopa (Steve); her loving grandchildren, Gianna, Alessia, Gia, and Santino Brun and Noah and Dominic Kokiko; her sister-in-law Virginia Myers, and brothers-in-law Frank Brun and George Risk, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Woodland Hills Assisted Living and Valley Hospice for taking such gentle care of Regina in her final days.
A private family-only Liturgy of the Word Service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home.
Rev Babu Elamturuthill will preside.
The public is invited to meet at Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Weirton, around 10:45 AM for an outdoor committal service. Social distancing will be observed.

We are so very sorry for your loss. May her memory be eternal. God bless and comfort you during this time. Pete and Lynnette Chacalos
I enjoyed many conversations with your Mom. When we dropped you kids off at Catechism we would talk and talk. I met Regina at many garage sales and we would talk there also. We probably passed many good bargains because we were so wrapped up in talking. Your Mom could make something beautiful from some cast off that another eye missed. I am so sorry for your loss.
To the Brun Family, Our deepest sympathy on the loss of your dear mother “Regina”. I knew Regina when she worked at Twi-State motors. I worked at Central Stores with your dad. Such a nice couple, I would see them at auctions. May they rest in peace
To the children of Regina, our deepest sympathy on the loss of your mom. As you kids were growing up Regina and I had lots of talks. Laughing and talking about you guys. God Bless all of you in this time of sorrow. Butch and Diana
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of my good friend, Regina. I share in your grief at our sad loss. I will never forget attending auctions with my dear friend Regina or meeting for coffee and a funny story. With deepest sympathy, Mary Jo & Dario Fracasso
Johnny, Josh, Miguel, Angelica and families, We were saddened to hear of your mother’s passing. We spent may hours together as we watched our kids play sports and grow up. Your mother was always so much fun. She loved you all so much and was so proud of you. You all were the loves of her life. May God hold her in his hands and rest her soul as she is reunited with your father. Cherish your memories and she will always be in your hearts. May God bless you and give you peace and strength as you go through this difficult time. You and your families will be in our thoughts and prayers. Joe & Lynn Swan
Regina was strong and courageous! She would do anything for her family. Her legacy of love will live on through John, Miguel, Josh, Angelica, and grandchildren. What a wonderful family!
I’m so sorry for your loss, John, Alissa and girls. Regina was a very special lady, and her family meant so much to her. My sincere condolences to all of you.
Regina was such a sweet lady that I had the pleasure of growing up alongside. She raised an amazing family and left quite a legacy. The thing I will remember most about Regina was her smile. I loved to make her laugh and I will always remember her for that smile and her subtle giggle. Rest in peace sweet soul. Praying for the Brun family at this very difficult time. Sending much love and sympathy. Angie (Fuccy) Spagnolo
Just wanted to say how sad I am to hear of Regina’s passing, I met her years ago at a church sale and we just hit it off, I guess we had a few things in common, cancer being one of them and going to sales. I looked forward to seeing her every summer and hearing about her grandchildren and children. I have missed seeing her since John passed and will have fond memories of her for a long time. Sending prayers out to her family…….. Rita Riley
